Directions to Unicorn Valley
The Stanford address is a postal address only; our farm is actually located
close to Moreland. Please be sure to let us know when you are coming so that we
can be on hand in case you get lost. Please leave a message on the machine if we
don’t pick up the phone; we will call you right back. The phone number is +1
(606) 346 4963.
There are two sets of directions below, one to the farm
itself, and one to the horse loading area.
This is where the main stables are and where we can receive guests. From the
main road, it's up a mile long dirt road at the very end.
From the North:
- Coming from the north on US 127 South, stay on the bypass around
Danville. In order to remain on 127 (rather than continuing on 150, which
would take you to Stanford), you will have to make a right turn after
passing a shopping center with a K-Mart, a Kroger’s and a Day’s Inn on
your left. After the right turn, you will be driving past a Walmart
Superstore on your left.
- After making the right turn, go about 5.7 miles and make a right turn
onto US 2141. (This is old US 127.)
- Go about 1.5 miles (there is an Chevron gas station, formerly Martin’s
Market, on the left) and make a right turn across the railroad tracks.
- Go about 0.3 miles and turn right on Black Pike (first available turn).
This might also be signed as Community Center Road.
- Go 0.6 miles and turn right onto Carter School Road. (Note: The signs
are sometimes missing.)
- Continue on Carter School Road for 1.8 miles. Our mailbox is on the
right (with "1800", "Virro", and "Unicorn Valley
Icelandics" on it) - make a right turn onto the dirt road.
- Once you are on the dirt road, go about 1 mile (carefully). There will
be a gate and you will have to drive through a creek bed and then you will
see the house (it's the only one there).
- Note: This is not a very good road, so take your oldest vehicle.

From the South:
- Coming from the South (via Liberty) on US 127 North, start paying
attention as you approach Hustonville, near mile marker 3. There will be a
small sign for Hustonville and another that says "Hustonville City
Limits". Turn left onto Route 78 (towards Lebanon).
- Go about 1.2 miles, turn right (before a small bridge) onto Black Pike.
- Go about 0.7 miles, turn left. There is a sign "Maxey Valley First
Church of God".
- Go another 0.7 miles and then turn right onto Carter School Road.
- Go about 1.7 miles. You will cross a creek in a big curve. Our mailbox
is on the right (with "1800", "Virro", and
"Unicorn Valley Icelandics" on it) - make a left turn onto the
dirt road.
- Once you are on the dirt road, go about 1 mile (carefully). There will
be a gate and you will have to drive through a creek bed and then you will
see the house (it's the only one there).
- Note: This is not a very good road, so take your oldest vehicle.
This is where horses can be loaded and unloaded. It is a barn located at the
other end of the property and is next to a paved blacktop road.
From the North:
- Coming from the north, turn off 127 onto old-127 as above.
- Go 1 mile and turn right onto Harris Creek Road. Proceed 1 mile and turn
left to remain on Harris Creek Road (rather than continuing straight on
Bowen Road).
- Go 1.3 miles and the barn with an attached silo will be on your left.

From the South:
- Remain on 127 past Hustonville. After crossing 78, continue for 3.5
miles and turn left on 1194. There is a small sign that reads
"MORELAND".
- After 0.4 miles this road ends on old-127. Turn right.
- Go 0.4 miles and turn left onto Harris Creek Road.
- Go 1 mile and turn right onto Harris Creek Road. Proceed 1 mile and turn
left to remain on Harris Creek Road (rather than continuing straight on
Bowen Road).
- Go 1.3 miles and the barn with an attached silo will be on your left.
There may be times when the horses should be picked up or dropped off in a
pasture closer to the house. In that case, continue uphill from the barn
about 0.6 miles to the top of the hill. (If the main road changes from
asphalt to gravel, you've gone too far.) There is a gate that will be
unlocked for you. Proceed through it, along the gravel road, until shortly
before the next gate.
